20.12.10

I'm home for the holidays.
had a great trip back.
lots of fun was had.

I'll be here for a little while, then moving on to Arkansas.
I miss my friends from NY.
Excited to meet new people in AR.

I ran this morning at 6.
I'm cleaning out my closet (literally).
I'm just cleaning in general.

it is a new me, in a way.
fear of the unknown is normal, right?

this is the end.

A date which will live in infamy...

1.12.10

1.dec.2010.

Montreal was, as we say in the Adirondaks, boss.
it is december.
and I am super happy about that.

what december means for me:
-I'll be heading back to NC in 15 days
-I get to see my sisters soon
-I get to see my boyfriend soon
-I get to see my dog soon
-holiday fun stuff to take pictures of
-sleeping in (hopefully...)
-trying to find a place that will hire me for less than a month
-hanging out with long lost friends

and there is a lot more too.

this is the end.

this picture is so striking:

With all the wars going on in the world, I am thankful that I am an American.
How I was born into this country, and not Afghanistan, or Korea, is still puzzling to me.
I'm thankful for our troops fighting for my freedom of speech.

this is the end.

AZ had sunshine.

I miss the sun.

The Grand Canyon is, well... Grand.

I love mushrooms.
so we leave for the Hopi Reservation on Thursday, and I've been told I will be one of the bloggers for the trip! Pretty cool! I'll post the link when I get it. Plus, I am super stoked for pictures I will be able to take!

this is the end.

27.9.10

so someone told me I should update my blog...
he's right...
like usual!

anyways, I've been swamped with work here.
which means not very many pictures to take...

this week we are going caving and white water rafting.
we were supposed to climb, but it's going to rain on us.

hopefully I'll have some pictures to share.

its hitting me hard.

I'm finished packing.
and leaving in about six hours.
wow.

we go through DC to see my grandfather.
then we stop in Philadelphia for the night.
wake up and head to Speculator.

Sunday is the welcome day.
Monday we pack our bags for orientation.
which is camping for a week.
by the way, its raining all next week.
I am really, really excited! not kidding!

three months isn't that long.
I've done it before.
albeit, different things are harder this semester.

I'm excited for the adventures I am going to have in life.
short term, and long term.
like kayaking off the San Juan Islands in the NW!

this is the end.

ten days left of summer...

my life is seriously insane.
currently in Omaha, NE.
just got here on sunday from a week's vacation in Branson, MO.
while we were in MO, I went to visit a school in AR.
it's just crazy.
I fly to NC this saturday.

oh yeah, hello September, who the heck said you could creep up like you did?!
punk.

I leave for NY next friday.
I'm a little nervous to be honest.
freakin out just a little.
its a bittersweet thing to go so far away..

random photos:
me climbing at Table Rock Lake, MO.

butterflies were everywhere.

the super adorable Kara, she's got an incredible story.

18.8.10

so I'm addicted to white water rafting.
went to New River Gorge this past weekend, it was awesome.
I'm the one in the middle.
this photo was on a tv so I took a picture of the tv cause I didn't want to pay 20 for a photo.
I cheat, I know.

I got Lightroom 3 too! So I am excited about editing possibilities.

packing for Branson.
spending the week on a lake.
that will be relaxing.
but, sometimes when I relax,
I feel lazy, and feel like I need to be doing other stuff.
but I think I will rent a kayak up there.

I'm going to miss this boy this fall.

he just sent me this great inspirational link, check out this gal:

9.8.10

one month? that's it?

I need more time.
I can't believe summer is basically over.
it seriously seems like I was sitting in Math 140 yesterday.
I hate math.

I am preparing for the weather up in NY.
bought a rain jacket/shell.
still need gloves and socks.
I think I will freeze, I'm a Carolina girl...

so hopefully this week I will get a lot of shoots.
I advertised through my family's bookstore, so we will see.
speaking of shoots: Tsai Family
I'm not supposed to put the 'family' shots up, because she hasn't chosen her favorites yet.

so much is happening in life.
but I am happy.

growing up is hard.
don't let anyone lie to you about that.
especially if you are the oldest 'child'.
you might as well change your name to guinea pig.

but I have to think more, instead of do.
thinking is a good thing.
and lately, I suppose I haven't been doing enough?

Matt took me to the Raleigh Art Museum; so cool.
art is awesome, and so is history.
be a nerd, ok?
you might become smart and receive some scholarships.
I wish I would have considered that at a younger age.

by the way, I love this woman so much:
my grandma, Sharon.
she's such an inspiration, and the woman I give credit for my artistic genes.

22.7.10

today is the last day of sessions.
its also "debate day" in communications, which is probably my least favorite.
trying to get boys to calmly discuss opposing viewpoints is just ridiculous.
we're breaking down today, too.
most of my letters are turned in, which is great news for me, less chicken scratch translation.

its the last week of camp.
summer has flown by, I can't believe it.
made some great friends here, and I will miss seeing them all the time.
love the job, and definitely would love to come back.

I can never spell "definitely" correctly.

I'm ready for the fall though.

its just bittersweet I guess.

some of my favorite letters to the editor

part of my communication merit badge is to write a letter to an editor, and here are some of my favorites so far:

Dear Editor,

We saved the camp from a fire that the sun made. It probably would have burned the camp and cost maybe millions. But I got to the administration building and warn them about it and they put it out. I had to ditch my buddy because he passed out ¾ of the way. But I went all the way without stopping. I learned what doing a good turn daily means doing the right thing to keep people safe. Me, you, everyone and help out. I geuss I have God to thank for that. God and Brad Paisley.

Sincerely, Chris

Letter to Sports Illustrated:

The last issue you sent to me was horrific! I mean seriously you put in the male-senior hopscotch championships?! Why in the world would you have 10 pages of 76 year old men in shorts without shirts on skipping?!? In the future if you don’t want every person that subscribes to your magazine to stop subscribing never add stories like that agian or your magazine will die!

Sincerely, Nicholas

Dear Editor,

I was recently reading an article about tic-tac-toe in your magazine. I would like to express my opinion concerning the subject. I don’t think of tic-tac-toe as a mere game, but as a skirmish of wits. Tic-tac-toe shouldn’t be played by trying to wait for your opponent to make a mistake but to force them to make a mistake. I think tic-tac-toe should be taken more seriously and should no be thought as simple, but as a sophisticated battle of wit and wills.

Sincerely, Josh

Dear Editor,

We can solve the BP Gulf of Mexico problem, with the nuclear solution. Since a nuclear bomb gives off intense heat we could just use that, it would turn all the ocean sand to glass, that way we wouldn’t have to search for oil. Also it would kill and cook all the fish, making instant fish sticks.

Sincerely Daniel

PS I am the bestest student ever

Dear Editor,

As any true pokemaster knows, Pokemon Black and White Versions are scheduled to be released in Japan in August. The same game with an English patch will be releasing in America around January. Personally I am outraged by the furthering of this already drawn out series. It has gone on too long. The pokemon company only has draw new pokemon sprites rearrange the map, and upgrade the graphics to the newest console. It is a ridiculous tradition and we must inform our children of this corporate scam.

Good Day, Calvin

wow.
so, it feels like it should be friday already.
it's only tuesday.

I teach three sessions of communication, assist in one photography, and also one citizenship in the world. so I am in all five sessions we offer.

these boys I teach are crazy.
I've got some really great guys, who are smart and respectful.
and I've got some really crazy guys, who are super smart, and really funny.
but I have to be mean, and tell them to be quiet. especially this set of twins, they are hilarious.

anyways, I really have not gotten to know the rest of the staff...
I'm that awkward new kid, and plus I am a girl.
and guys can't talk to a girl.

loving the job though, I really do enjoy "instructing" (we're not allowed to call it teaching, I don't know why.)

He's basically just incredible.
Plus, Sam Beam has a beard, which makes them so much better. He's on my list of men to marry... (hehe)

Cinder and Smoke (one of my favs):

12.6.10

murderer.

so.
I was driving to Pilot Mountain this morning with my friend Cameron, so we could meet up with some of our other friends and CLIMB!!! We headed out at about 6am; the drive was smooth, almost no traffic, until about 7am.

all of the sudden.
there is something in the middle of my car.
a freakin deer.
It leapt out of nowhere, landed in the middle of the car, the impact thrust it high into the air where it flipped head over heels about five times before landing twenty feet over, perfectly in the median.

I killed a deer.
but more importantly, my beloved Silver Bullet is dead also.
So we did not go climbing.
and I was super bummed:

-no climbing
-I murdered a deer
-I killed my van
